“Pariahs: Performing Europe’s Historical Memory” is an interdisciplinary, creative project unearthing communities’ unspoken and collective memories of marginalized individuals, through community-based research and artistic practices.
The project begins with a community-based artistic research project to record communities’ historical memories of marginalised individuals. In all four project locations (Eleusis – Greece, Mont Dauphin – France, Maribor – Slovenia and Yerevan & Ayntab – Armenia), groups of participants gathered and discovered historical memory and unspoken stories through interactive, participatory practices.
Then, an artist mobility program follows from October 2023 to April 2024 where artists traveled to Armenia, France and Greece to meet local cultures, co-create, exchange artistic practices and actively engage with local communities. During the residencies, co-creation workshops took place, organised by artist teams and with local communities as participants. These workshops were an integral part of the art residency program, aiming to foster artistic collaboration and community engagement across diverse cultural contexts.
The project ends with 4 showcase events presenting the artistic creations that were produced during the project: a dance performance in Mont-Dauphin, France, with music co-produced by Armenian and French musicians, a theatre performance in Eleusis, Greece, with original music scores, a visual arts exhibition in Yerevan, Armenia, and a literary event presenting the illustrated book produced my the Slovenian team in Maribor, titled “What would the world be without mavericks?”.
